“Mountains are metaphors of our lives.” – Fr. John Francis, CSJ
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to spend 10 days with other young adults, through Eagle Eye Ministries’ Alaska Young Adult Summer Institute. I was able to immerse myself in the beauty and richness of the Alaskan nature and growing in relationship with the Lord.
Mountains throughout Alaska have been formed and shaped by various weathering events. The same can be said about your spiritual life. The way you approach prayer, your relationship with the Lord, and the outlook on your Christian vocation can be affected by numerous life events.
When you come face-to-face with a mountain, physically or spiritually, what do you do?
Do you turn around and go back the way you came because it’s too hard to face? - or - Do you find a way to embrace the work it takes to reach the top?
The easy answer is to avoid the mountain all together. However, if you avoid every hardship in life you will never accomplish the mission the Lord created you for.
You must seize the moment and climb that mountain. In the midst of it, you will discover something new about yourself and God! I surely did during my experience!
At the end of the day, you must lay all that you are before the Lord, every hope, dream, desire and ideal at the foot of the cross. Together, with the Lord, you will be able to ascend any mountain life may send your way.
How is the Lord asking you to respond to the mountains in your life?
