In the Catholic Church, every month is dedicated to a particular devotion within the faith! The month of May is dedicated in honoring and seeking the intercession of Mary as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church.

One important part of the Catholic identity is to have a devotion to Mary. Mary shows us Jesus, leads us to him, teaches us to know and love him so that one day we can be fully united with Him in Heaven.

A few ways your local parish may honor Mary and her Motherhood is to decorate a Marian altar or hold a May Crowning celebration. These practices don't have be just a "church" thing. Why not create a tradition with your family and echo a custom similar in your home, your domestic church, which allows your family to participate more fully in the life of the Church.

Mary shows us how to have faith, humility, and acceptance of God's will for our lives through her own fiat.

If God called an ordinary girl from the town of Nazareth for extraordinary things. Imagine where God may be calling us, ordinary people, to become extraordinary by doing the simple things in life.

"She is that woman who rejoiced in the presence of God, who treasured everything in her heart, and who let herself be pierced by the sword. Mary is the saint among the saints, blessed above all others. She teaches us the way of holiness and she walks ever at our side. She does not let us remain fallen and at times she takes us into her arms without judging us." – Pope Francis, Gaudete et Exsultate, no. 176

May Mother Mary be your guide and example as you journey through life!

Mother Mary, pray for us!
