Every month is dedicated to a particular devotion within the Catholic Church. The month of June is devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Today is the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast day moves around as it lands on the Friday following Corpus Christi Sunday. During the 17th century, Jesus appeared in a vision to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque requesting her to promote devotion & honor towards His Sacred Heart, in reparation for the ingratitude of mankind toward His sacrifice on the cross.
Among the devotions in the Catholic Church, devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus remains one of the popular ones. The First Friday devotion practice draws its source from this feast day.
A heart is the symbol of human love. Within it lies our emotions, loves, passions and desires. In the image of the Sacred Heart, Christ is pointing at His heart, which is on fire with love. This exemplifies His immense and infinite love for humanity which drew Him to die on the cross for us. Jesus desires that all mankind will draw close to Him in love and trust.
Abandon yourselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Allow the glory in your heart to recall the wonders of His love and overflowing measure of graces from the fount of Heaven He wishes to bestow on us.
“In the Sacred Heart every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden. In that Divine Heart beats God’s infinite love for everyone, for each one of us individually.” – St. Pope John Paul II
